Begonia Care Instructions
Here is how to care for your Begonia plant.
Watering
Begonia needs a decent amount of water so you’ll want to water them roughly every four days to one week once the top inch of soil becomes dry. Do not over water your Begonia plant as this can cause root rot.
Sunlight
Begonia need bright but indirect sunlight for most species including ones with red, black, pink, silver, and green variegation. Although some species with deep coloring like the "Dragon Wing" can survive in full sunlight for periods of time, it is always best to keep them in shade.
Soil or Potting Mix
Begonia need well draining potting mix or soil to prevent root rot, so use ones with perlite or coco coir, or try our formulated potting mixes here.
How Often Begonia Bloom
Begonia bloom times change by species and if they are kept indoors and outdoors as the environment they are in impacts their blooming schedule. Species of Begonia like “Angel Wing” and “Wax” can bloom year round, even if they’re indoor houseplants. Begonia that are tuberous (are tubers with swollen underground roots) bloom from summer to late fall and include the popular “Dragon Wing.”
Pet Friendly
Begonias are not safe for pets including cats and dogs. If you notice your Begonia has been chewed or eaten, contact your veterinarian immediately.
