A QUICK GUIDE TO WELCOMING YOUR NEW PLANTS HOME
Caring For Your New Plant
Unpacking
- Once your package arrives, bring it inside promptly to avoid leaving it outside in unfavorable weather conditions. Unwrap your items as soon as possible.
- Remove the wrapping and packing materials from your plants, being careful not to accidentally cut any leaves.
- Remove the sphagnum moss on top of the soil, which is only used for transportation. You can compost it or save it for other gardening needs.
- Check the soil moisture of each plant and give it a drink if it's dry. While watering, you can also rinse the foliage in the sink to freshen it up after the journey.
Transition
- Find a well-lit spot for your plant away from direct sunlight and drafts.
- Remember, your plant has just completed a long journey. If you notice any yellowing or shedding leaves, don't worry, it's normal. A healthy root system will encourage new growth.
- Be careful not to overwater, especially in the winter. Most plants want at least half of their soil to dry out.
- Try not to fuss over it too much - sometimes easier said than done!
Repotting
- Wait at least 14 days before repotting your new plant. This gives the young plant time to adjust and settle into its new home, promoting healthy growth now and in the future.
- Choose a pot that's only one size larger than the current one. For example, if it's in a 4" pot, move it to a 5" or 6" pot.
- During repotting, try to disturb the roots as little as possible. Gently remove the plant from its current pot, place it in the new pot, and fill the space with a suitable soil mix for the plant's species.
