How to Care for Monstera Thai Constellation Plants

Read in: 3 min

The Thai Constellation is a species of Monstera plant from the Deliciosa family known for its fenestrated leaves (holes), star speckled variegation (color patterns), and being an easy-to-care for rare tropical houseplant . It also happens to be a signature best seller here at BWH Plant Co, so we know a thing or two about caring for Monstera Thai Constellation plants .

Below you’ll find everything you’ll want to know including watering, repotting, and how to resolve health issues if you notice its leaves turning yellow or wilting. This is the same information we share with customers, and based on the questions plant parents like you ask.

It all starts with knowing where Thai Constellation grows naturally so you can understand its needs, and then how to provide it with a similar environment in your home. With a few small plant care tips, you can keep your Thai Constellation vibrant and thriving.

Where Monstera Thai Constellation Comes From

While Monstera plants originate from tropical regions in Central America ranging from Mexico to Panama, Thai Constellation is a “cultivar” meaning cultivated, and was created through tissue samples in a laboratory in Thailand. The strategic propagation is what gives Monstera Thai Constellation its signature white and cream colors star patterns over the green color on its foliage.

Although this Monstera Deliciosa was created in a laboratory, the variegation does not always come through which is why it is considered a rare tropical plant. Unlike other rare tropical houseplants including the Blue Oil Fern or Anthirium “Forgetii x Luxurians”, Monstera Thai Constellation is an easy-to-care for plant making it perfect for people that want a unique houseplant for their home, or a beginner plant parent who is not ready to commit to a high-level of care plant.

The care instructions for Thai Constellation are the same as a naturally occurring Monstera plant where you’ll want well-draining potting mix and bright but indirect sunlight. Here are some of the specifications about the plant if you haven’t purchased yet, and plant care instructions under if you have.

Plant Care Instructions for Monstera Thai Constellation

It may be a rare tropical houseplant, but Monstera Thai Constellation is an easy-to-care for houseplant. That doesn’t mean you can set it and forget it like a snake plant , but you don’t have to stress over every detail as the plant is hardy.

Watering

Water your Monstera Thai Constellation every one to two weeks when the top 1 - 2 inches of potting mix is dry. A water meter will help you know if it is time when you are unsure. During the growing seasons of spring and summer you may need to water your Thai Constellation each week as it will drink more and need nutrients, where it is dormant in fall and winter.

Pro-tip: Add nutrients once a month when you water in spring and summer to help keep its colors vibrant and leaves healthy. Our Arber plant food is a great option.

Sunlight

Monstera Thai Constellation needs bright but indirect sunlight for about 3 to 5 hours per day so place it somewhere near a window but not where it gets direct sunbeams. Direct exposure to too much sunbeams can scorch and burn the leaves, similar to how our skin burns when we get too much sun.

Humidity and Temperature

Thai Constellation thrives in 65 - 85 degree farenheight temperatures with 60% to 80% humidity levels. This works great for most households temperature wise, but you’ll want to use a pebble tray or group your Thai Constellation with other plants to help increase the levels of humidity around the plant.

Potting Mix, Health, and Nutrition

Thai Constellation plants need well draining but chunky potting mix so make sure it has horticulture grade charcoal or vermiculite for drainage, and coconut, orchid bark, or another chunky substance to help keep the potting mix slighty moist. Our Dirt Bag is a perfect potting mix for Monstera Thai Constellation.

Health Issues to Look For

This cultivated Deliciosa is a hardy plant, and most health issues are caused by overwatering like root rot or scorched leaves. If your plant has root rot, gently remove it from the potting mix, rinse the roots with water, and apply a mix of 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 3 parts water.

When you discover scorched leaves, trim any leaves that won’t be able to recover with sharp shears and place your Thai Constellation plant a bit further away from direct sunlight.
